Scope and topics:

Understanding crystal structures at different length scales is crucial in improving and designing functional materials with macroscopic properties. Besides conventional average structure analysis, it is possible to extend the characterization into scales as small as atomistic structures and as large as mesoscopic domains, interfaces, and defects. This symposium is dedicated to the discussion of various types of state-of-art techniques for structural characterization and multi-scale structure-property relations of ferroic materials.

We suggest (but not limited to) the following topics:

Advanced techniques/knowledge for multi-scale structural characterization (PDF, PFM, HRTEM etc);

Multi-scale structural design, fabrication, and synthesis;

Nanoscale crystal structure determination and calculation;

Domains and related phenomena;

Defects in crystals and amorphous materials
