P - Electro/magneto/mechano-caloric effects

Organizers:

Guangzu Zhang (zhanggz@hust.edu.cn), School of Integrated Circuits, Huazhong University of Science and Technology

Bing Li (bingli@imr.ac.cn), Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science, Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Scope and topics:

Caloric effects are reversible thermal changes that occur in electrically, magnetically, and mechanically responsive materials when subjected to changes in applied electric, magnetic, and mechanical fields, opening up new perspectives for designing solid-state refrigeration devices, which not only aids in resolving the environmental issues brought on by conventional freon refrigeration and achieving the goal of carbon neutrality but also greatly enhances the efficiency of existing refrigeration systems.

The intensive research on these caloric effects is expected to play a key supporting role in the development of high efficiency wearable thermal management technology, chip precise thermal management technology, infrared programmable stealth and camouflage, and lightweight aerospace thermal management system. The investigation of the physical causes of caloric effects, the creation of new caloric materials for solid-state refrigeration, simulation, and device design of caloric effects in solid-state refrigeration are the main trends in the development of electro/magneto/mechano-caloric effects with high performance.

This symposium covers all these main trends, and reports on newly-emerged electro/magneto/mechano-caloric materials, progress in preparation methods and characterization techniques, and new applications of electro/magneto/mechano-caloric materials and devices are welcome.
