Scope and topics:

The dynamic structures of functional materials are attractive topics from both fundamental and applied perspectives. The self-correlated and collective motions of atoms, spins and domains are the determining factors for novel functionalities. E.g., the polarisations in ferroelectrics are associated with the specific phonon branches and the spin waves reflect the magnetic properties. Additionally, understanding the dynamics, especially the ultrafast dynamics of the polarisation, lattice, spins and recently reported topological structures in response to external stimuli is the key to exploring novel devices like high-speed and low-energy data storage and memory electronics. However, it is not intuitive to "see" the dynamic structures and advanced scattering techniques using elementary particles such as photons, electron and neutrons are required to probe the dynamic properties as well as the time and space correlations. This mini-symposium will discuss advanced characterisation techniques for understanding hidden dynamics and highlight the critical role of dynamic structures in multifunctional materials.
